Newton Medical Center (NMC) is proud to announce that Janie Mosqueda, RN, infection control coordinator, and John Spielman, environmental services manager, have been invited to serve as board members for their respective professional organizations.

Beginning in January, Mosqueda will join the Wichita-chapter board of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) for a two-year term. She has been a member of APIC since July of last year.

In addition, Mosqueda will join the board of the Central Plains Expo, an educational conference and vendor fair geared toward staff and management in infection control, environmental services, sterile processing and materials management. During this two-year term, she will also serve as the registration coordinator for the conference.

The vision of APIC is healthcare without infection,” says Mosqueda. “As part of their board, I’ll have the opportunity to work with other infection control specialists to continually improve safety for patients, visitors and staff in our hospitals.”

She has been with NMC since 2007.

Spielman was invited to join the board of directors for the Kansas Environmental and Laundry Services Association (KHELSA). His one-year term with the Kansas Hospital Association’s allied health organization began this past October during the KHELSA annual conference.

“I’m honored to have been asked to serve,” says Spielman of his new role. “KHELSA’s goal is to make Kansas a leader in environmental services (EVS) in hospitals by giving those in the field the opportunity to grow — I’m excited to be a part of that.”

Spielman has been a member of KHELSA since 2015. He also joined NMC in 2015.
