Newton Medical Center (NMC) is pleased to announce that it has received a $1,500 grant from the Women’s Community Foundation, an affiliate of Central Kansas Community Foundation.

NMC will use the funds to provide wound care supplies to patients who are unable to afford them.

“At our Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Center, we often see patients without insurance or the financial means to pay for wound care supplies that are necessary for their treatment,” said Kristi Vrtiska, associate chief nursing officer, Newton Medical Center. “Many times, patients who cannot properly care for their wounds are at in increased risk of developing infections, which can lead to other health issues, even hospital admissions.”

“We continue to see more patients each year, said Kim Harris, supervisor, Wound Center. “While this is something our team is proud of, it also means we have a greater need to provide supplies to those who cannot afford them. This grant will help provide those necessary supplies, ensuring all our patients have the opportunity to completely heal from their wounds and go on to lead normal, healthy lives.”

Newton Medical Center’s Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Center opened in 2010, with more than 4,000 patient visits each year.
