Occupational & Physical Therapy

NMC’s occupational & physical therapy department provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment sessions at our outpatient location, Newton Therapy & Sports Performance.

Our occupational therapists train patients on the use of adaptive equipment, modify activities and environments, address cognitive retraining and simplify work. They work with patients and families to assist patients back to a level of independence with activities of daily living and physical function.

NMC’s physical therapists assess joint range of motion, strength, balance and endurance as a result of many types of injuries, conditions and disorders. They work with patients to facilitate recovery to the highest level of function.

*For patients with private insurance, a physician referral for evaluation and treatment by our therapists is not required; simply call our office to schedule your appointment. For patients with Medicare or Medicaid, a physician referral is required. If you need help obtaining a referral, give our office a call and our patient care coordinator can assist you.

Respiratory Therapy

Located in the hospital, NMC’s respiratory therapy department provides diagnosis and treatment for conditions affecting the cardiopulmonary system. Our respiratory therapists provide ventilation support, assistance in labor and delivery, medications to the cardiopulmonary system, assistance with CPR and the maintenance of artificial airways. They facilitate diagnostic testing such as pulmonary function testing and sleep testing, as well support transitions from the hospital to home care with the use of pulmonary aids, such as CPAPs.

A physician referral is necessary for outpatient respiratory therapy. Patients will need to complete registration at the hospital before respiratory therapy appointments.

Speech Therapy

Located in our outpatient rehabilitation location, Newton Medical Center’s fully credentialed speech language pathologists (speech therapists) evaluate and diagnose speech, language, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders. Patients range from infants with feeding and swallowing disorders to adults who have had strokes.
