The Newton Medical Center occupational therapy department provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment sessions in both acute care and inpatient rehabilitation settings. Our occupational therapists train patients and families on use of adaptive equipment, modify activities and environments, address cognitive retraining and simplify work. They work with patients and families to assist patients back to a level of independence with activities of daily living and physical function.
The Newton Medical Center physical therapy department provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment sessions in both acute care and inpatient rehabilitation settings. Our physical therapists assess joint range of motion, strength, balance and endurance as a result of many types of injuries, conditions and disorders. They work with patients and families to facilitate recovery to the highest level of function.
The Newton Medical Center respiratory therapy department provides diagnosis and treatment for conditions affecting the cardiopulmonary system. Our respiratory therapists provide ventilation support, assistance in labor and delivery, medications to the cardiopulmonary system, assistance with CPR and the maintenance of artificial airways. They facilitate diagnostic testing such as pulmonary function testing and sleep testing, as well support transitions from the hospital to home care with the use of pulmonary aids, such as CPAPs.
NMC’s respiratory therapy department has been awarded Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR) by the American Association for Respiratory Care. We are among the only 15% of respiratory therapy departments nationwide to earn this national recognition.
The Newton Medical Center’s fully credentialed speech language pathologists (speech therapists) evaluate and diagnose speech, language, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders. Patients range from infants with feeding and swallowing disorders to adults who have had strokes.
